“Bow Down Or Die” – The Worthy Hero Defends The Faithful.

Would you have the courage and strength to do the right thing if given such an order, “Bow Down or Die?” Are you bold enough to say “No” at the thought of worshiping a false god? Does it seem hypothetical that such an order would be given to you? Most of us are not use to this if you live in the USA, but for many places around the world this is not a foreign concept. One could only hope we are ready for such a time when it comes upon us, or like the Bible story below,  you may find a worthy hero come along to defend the faithful.

“Bow to A False god or die”

When King Nebuchadnezzer ruled over Babylon He had a large golden image set up, sixty cubits high and six cubits wide. That would have been about 90 feet high and 9 feet wide I think. The King summoned all the officials, Governors, Judges, Administrators etc,  throughout the Kingdom. They came and dedicated the golden image the King had set up. King Nebuchadnezzer declared to all the cities, nations, and languages, that whenever they heard the horn, harp or lyre playing a symphony they (the people) were to fall to their knees and worship his golden image. Whomever would not bow before the image would be immediately cast into the fiery furnace.

From then on, all the people would bow down and worship the golden image. Except certain Jewish officials who were observed. Some astrologers (who were Chaldeans) brought news to the King accusing three  Jewish leaders. They reminded the King of his decree.  Sounds as if the astrologers had something against Jews or maybe I am wrong. They pointed the finger at Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego who were appointed officials in the land. My guess is the promotion of Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego had affected someone and they may have been keeping an eye on them. Once they slipped up they were reported to the King.

Bigotry was previlant back then, especially towards Jews. No doubt some Jews bowed to the image. Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego trusted God and refused to bow to a false god. This did not go unnoticed by the Chaldeans or Astrologer officials.  So the Chaldeans (commonly know for magic arts or astrology) were probably filled with jealousy, because of the Hebrew men recent promotions. Nothing like waiting for payback!

As you can imagine the men are brought before the King and he is pretty Hot! I think he is hoping they will just worship the image and not make waves. He knows these three boys and he likes them. He honored them in the past. He even knows they worship the True God. Then he asks “Is it true , Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the golden image which I have set up? Now if you are ready at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, and you fall down and worship the image which I have made, good! But if you do not worship, you shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you from my hands?” Reference Daniel chapter 3.

Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego answers King Nebuchadnezzer by telling him that the God who they serve will deliver them from the fiery furnace, but even if he doesn’t they would not serve his gods or golden image. The whole demeanor of the King changed when he received the answer and he was filled with fiery  fury. The King commands (Why you should never make decisions when you are this angry) the furnace be turned up seven times the normal heat.  He calls for the Mighty men in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego and cast them into the fiery furnace.

What’s interesting is while transporting the Hebrew men to the furnace, these mighty soldiers are burned up by the flames and they die. The three Hebrew men fall into the burning furnace of fire and in utter amazement King Nebuchadnezzer jumps from his chair from what he saw next. What did he see? He questions his counselors, stating, “Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?” “Look, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.” Wow!

“Bow Down Or Die” – The Worthy Hero Defends The Faithful.

Here you see the Son of God appear thousands of years before the birth of Jesus Christ to defend his faithful servants. If we have the type of faith that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego That is pretty significant for many people who think Jesus only existed 2000 years ago when He was born in Human form. No the Bible says Jesus Created the entire world in Colossians Chapter 1  and called Him the image of the invisible God. In John chapter one he is called the “Word”. The Bible says the “Word was with God and the “Word” was God and the “Word” became flesh and dwelt among us.
