Should Doctors and drug companies be held accountable for the prescription drug epidemic?

Who should be held accountable?

Prescription drugs are tearing our country apart. If you don’t know what Oxycontin is, I pray you will never find out. In the short-term, drugs like OxyContin block pain messages to your brain and cause drowsiness. It is a highly addictive pain reliever which many people have come to find out is a hard habit to get rid of. Xanax is another drug used to calm your central nervous system and produces  a calming effect.

Should Doctors and drug companies be held accountable for addictive and harmful drugs?

Oxycodone and Xanax are terribly addictive drugs which many doctors seem to want to hand out like candy. In my opinion these doctors are doing a disservice to the community. They are acting like licensed drug dealers and should be held accountable for their actions.

Drugs like Oxycodone and Xanax are destroying America

Millions of people have been enabled by them. In fact one could blame the drug companies and doctors for the amount of addicted people we have running around committing all these crimes. Oxycodone and Xanax are just two name of the many drugs on the market which are destroying  lives. People end up becoming dependent on them. They get high, their minds are altered and their behavior changes. People who would otherwise be law-abiding citizens are now committing burglaries, murder and all sorts of crimes, to come up with money to purchase the drugs from dealers.

Brittany Miles becomes an addict

In one case a young mother, named Brittany Miles, was involved in a car accident in 2009 and was prescribed Oxycodone and Xanax for her pain. Brittany Miles from New Port Richey Florida, like so many others, became an addict. 2 years later she was pulled over by police for being under the influence of prescription drugs. Brittany was arrested, handcuffed and locked in the back of a squad car.

An Addict commits the crime

She got a hand out of the handcuff and escaped through the window of the car. She entered her truck. The Deputy attempted to stop her by jumping on the sideboard. Brittany sped off dragging the deputy. The Female Deputy said Brittany shoved her from the vehicle at 70 mph. The Deputy broke her leg. Brittany continued driving while being chased by police. She then struck and killed a motorcyclist while on the 100 mph chase in another county.

Brittany recently received a 15 year sentence from Pasco County and now face trial for the murder in Hernando county.

Should Doctors and drug companies be held accountable?

Why are Doctors and drug companies not held to a higher standard? The record is clear! People get hooked on these drugs and begin a downward spiral. Yes, Brittany Miles is responsible for her crimes, But so should the Doctors who prescribed the harmful drugs and the companies that make them. They are both complicit in these crimes. They are raking in cash while American lives are being destroyed. The victims are not just the addicts but the people they injure.

Prescription drug epidemic?

It was prescription drugs overdose that killed Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and Heath Ledger. Not so far from home. These are people that we all know and care about and if they are dying from this stuff, you know it’s a serious problem. The big drug companies are still making a killing off common folks. There is no end in site.
